Security Breach: What Does Business Continuity Have to Do with It?

The frequency and complexity of security breaches over the last few years indicate that this threat is increasing and will continue to have a profound impact on daily operations. No business sector is exempt; financial, retail, health and even government agencies have all been affected. The actors have changed and our organizations are targeted. More and more business continuity professionals are in the mix when these security incidents unfold. This presentation will give an overview of the threat horizon, a comprehensive review of the “kill chain” and address the changing role of the BC practitioner in the process. Takeaways include a grasp of the lingo, working with security incident vendors, preserving evidence, dealing with external agencies – police and/or FBI and communicating with internal and external stakeholder during the event.

Pauline Williams Banta

Pauline Williams-Banta is The Energy Authority's Manager of Business Continuity and is responsible for enterprise resilience and disaster recovery activities. She uses a risk management approach to design and implement technology driven recovery strategies for the organization. She engages with engineers, database and system administrators to develop strategic and day-to-day business continuity related services which highly leverage technology.

Williams-Banta joined The Energy Authority in 1999 and progressed through a variety of roles in the Information Technology department. Additionally, while working in diverse industries, she held positions in accounting, equipment sales and professional coaching consulting services.

Williams-Banta earned her Master of Business Administration from the University of North Florida. She is a Master Business Continuity Professional (MBCP), a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP),, a Project Management Professional (PMP), ad winner of the 2015 DRI Awards of Excellence Strategy of the Year.
